Jailbird Biography:
Jeff Sayer began his journey on August 29, 1978 and was raised in a sleepy little town on the outskirts of Washington State’s capital, Olympia. Rainier, or “Woodcide” as it is known within his circle, is a small town with a population of less than 2000 that offers very little to occupy a mind with as voracious an appetite for artistic and intellectual stimulation as Jeff’s. Consequently, he spent many of his teen years flirting with detention centers, house arrests and being on and off probation. It was during this period of his life that he earned his stage name, Jailbird. Early on in Jailbird’s life, through all the turmoil, he discovered that he enjoyed art in its many faces and facets. Moreover, he discovered that he had a notable talent in many of the artistic disciplines. Through the cultivation of his talents, he managed to break the cycle of delinquency as well as lay the foundation for what is now a flourishing career in musical and artistic expression. The unique way that he saw the world became vividly illustrated in his drawings and air-brushings. It was also his same vision of the world and how we interact with it that would be the fuse that facilitated his explosion onto the music scene in 2002 when he dropped his first album, Blaze It Up. Though he was quite involved in the underground Hip-hop movement of the 1990’s, Blaze It Up marked his emancipation within the local scene and authoritatively announced, “I am Jailbird and I have arrived!” As he delved deeper into the hip-hop world and its unique culture, Jailbird began exploring every aspect of the process and the industry. Where many hip-hop artists are content to remain inside their comfort zone, namely rapping and singing, Jailbird intrepidly immersed himself in the production and promotion of himself and his product. Armed with a remarkable pension for words and language matched only by his determination and unwavering belief in his abilities and his music, he continued evolving as an artist, releasing his second full length album, Sacrifice, in 2004. The following year, all his effort and dedication reached a boil culminating in the release of the self-produced and appropriately titled, Make It Happen.
